Android 13 won’t be coming to Nothing Phone (1) this year

The Nothing Phone (1) officially launched last month and it runs on the Android 12-based Nothing OS out of the box. Many users believed that they’ll be getting an Android 13 update later this year, but an official statement from the company has quashed those rumors.

Nothing has stated that the Android 13 update for Nothing Phone (1) will arrive in the first half of 2023, which will be between January and June. However, the company has also pressed that it’ll continue releasing software updates for the device.

Carl Pei stated that the company is always working hard to improve the Nothing Phone (1) user experience. For ensuring that, the OS updates will be made available for regular download. He also added that the Nothing Phone (1) users will be getting the update in the first half of 2023. Before the update, the OEM wants to fine tune the software upgrade with Nothing hardware.

Nothing Phone (1) getting a firmware version 1.1.3 update instead

It needs to be acknowledged that even though Nothing Phone (1) was only launched in July, it’s already benefiting from consistent updates. Moreover, users have spotted the next update that comes with camera improvements and general bug fixes.

A Reddit user shared a screenshot of the changelog for the firmware version 1.1.3. It shows a decent-sized update with a couple of new features including Google’s Adaptive Battery, usually seen on Google Pixel smartphones. It detects app usage while adjusting accordingly to extend battery life. Nothing will also introduce a new fingerprint verification UI for third-party apps.

Aside from the new features, the camera will be getting numerous enhancements via the next Nothing Phone (1) update, which will be rolled out slowly. These include the device optimizing images for color and brightness when using Glyph lighting. Moreover, HDR and Night Mode will take considerably less time to process and other enhancements will improve photo quality when using digital zoom, ultrawide lens, and selfie camera.
