HMD Global which currently makes the Nokia smartphones has withdrawn from this year’s MWC2020 due to the Coronavirus fear. The company was expected to showcase its upcoming Nokia devices like Nokia 1.3 and Nokia 5.2 at MWC 2020. According to the official reports, the company will re-schedule the event later.
HMD Global posted an official press release saying, “MWC Barcelona has always been a key event in our annual calendar and we were very excited to showcase our new products to our partners, customers, media and fans. However, the health and safety of our employees, customers, and stakeholders is our highest priority. We still plan to showcase what we had lined up for our presence at MWC Barcelona and will share details on how we’ll do that soon.”
HMD Global is not the only company to pull out from MWC. Big companies like Vivo, Sony, Ericsson, Amazon and Nvidia had withdrawn from the event. Today morning, Ulefone, a Chinese mobile manufacturer pulled out of the event.
Some companies like Realme, Xiaomi and Huawei are still going to join the event with details coronavirus precautions. The organisers of MWC, GSMA are going to decide the fate of the event on the 14th of February.
