When you have to unlock the bootloader, most Android devices only need to execute the Fastboot flashing unlock commands. However, Xiaomi seems to have overcomplicated the process. From adding your account to the device to using just the carrier data during the setup, things couldn’t have gone any worse.
The official tool that was used for carrying out this process is already bugged with a few issues and now there’s another bug. Many users have been voicing their concern that they’re experiencing the “Couldn’t unlock please add your account in your MIUI’s settings” error when trying to unlock the bootloader on their Xiaomi device through the Mi Unlock Tool.
If you’re getting the same issue, then this guide is perfect for you. In this guide, you will get to know how to fix Couldn’t unlock please add your account in MIUI’s settings.
How to fix Couldn’t unlock, please add your account in MIUI’s settings
- Go to the Xiaomi account site and create a new account while having the region set to the United States
- Make sure you’re using a different name and a different email
- Once it is done, you must factory reset your smartphone and add the account
- Carry out the bootloader unlock using the new account and MIUI Unlock Tool
- If you’re still getting any issues, you will need to delete your existing account that is associated with the same phone number linked to your new account
- Remember, doing this will delete the data that you synced to your account, so you must have a backup beforehand and delete the existing account
- Once it is done, start from Step 2 again and this time you won’t have any issues
- Once the process has been completed, you will still need to wait 168 hours for unlocking the bootloader as this is how the official unlocking process works
