[Download] Google Assistant app now on Play Store [APK]: On October 4th, Google launched its flagship smartphones Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. As all the focus were on the much-awaited smartphones, people could not pay attention to the other interesting releases like Google Home Mini, Google Clip and most importantly Google Assistant app. Google has uploaded Google Assistant as an app on Play Stores, and you can download it directly from there. It is the first time, Google has turned it into a dedicated app, and it is something you must have on your smartphone.

What Google Assistant App Has New To Offer?

Google is pushing its Assistant feature because that is where the future trend of the smartphone world lies. Most of the smartphone manufacturers have started to have such a feature as a bloatware and Google wants to top them. Do not get too excited as the Google Assistant app from Play Store will not actually be an app on your device once you install it. It will not also bring any new feature to the existing version of Google Assistant. It will just create a shortcut for launching Google Assistant directly.

As you are aware of the fact that to launch Google Assistant currently on your Android device, you had to long-press the Home key or Menu key or simply say ‘Ok Google’ as a voice command to open it via Google App. But now, you can just tap on the shortcut on the home screen, and if you are used to the old methods of launching it, you can use them too. So, it is a move for the convenience of the users and nothing else. Therefore, if you want to use your home key less or feel bored or shy to say Ok Google all the time to launch Google Assistant, you can go ahead and install the app from the Play Stores.

Just in case you have a custom Android OS that does not offer Play Stores or if your Play Stores app is malfunctioning, you can download the APK file of the app and install it from unknown sources. The only criterion is your device must have Google App version 7.1.1 or higher.

Step 1. Go to Settings of your device and then to Security. Enable “Unknown Sources” if you are having Nougat or “Install Unknown Apps” if you have Oreo.

Step 2. Download the APK file of Google Assistant and tap on it and accept all the terms and conditions to install it.

Once done, you will see a shortcut of Google Assistant created on the home screen.
