Google recently updated the Pixel came app to the latest version 8.5.300. The update has already gone live on the Play Store and it is currently being rolled out in a phased manner all over the world. In the recent Google I/O 2022 event, the smartphone giant officially unveiled many stunning software features, hardware products, and apps. It was quite a surprise that the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro weren’t unveiled. This can only mean that the Pixel 7 is still under production and is tested for the latest software updates including the Pixel Camera app. The Google Camera 8.5 will have a few traces and source code of the upcoming Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro handsets.

Features and changelog for the Google Camera 8.5

Coming to the changelog, there will be new Haptic feedback for the shutter and also when switching the front/rear camera modes. There is even a centering visual when using the Night Sight mode. Further, when you’re selecting zoom levels in the camera app, the indicator now comes with some slide animation to it. The camera user interface has also been given numerous minor tweaks. Switching between the camera modes has also got animation, making it much more seamless.

The update has also improved the crispness and clarity of the photos. The rear camera photos come with 1x and 4x zoom as the zooming has improved significantly. The transition will be significantly smoother when you’re sliding to zoom as the viewfinder appears to pan a bit to the left (between 2x and 4x) to align with the telephoto lens.

According to reports, the official Google Camera 9.0 will be released after the launch of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Interestingly, the previous Google Camera 8.4.6 update came with full support for Material You visuals. It even included general bug fixes and improvements.

Starting with Android 11, Google started releasing apps in Split APKs (multiple APKs) format. This meant that the app came split into multiple packages including the base and config APK files. This was done to solve the compatibility issues and help in installing apps like the Google Camera APK on Android devices featuring different dpi, architecture, screen size, screen resolution, and more.

This is why the package size also increased. The previous Google Camera APK was listed at a whopping 353 MB in size before installation. However, there is a lightweight version of Google Camera 8.5.300 APK that weighs just 127 MB in size.
