Pre-Requirements:

  • The Moto G 2014 should be rooted.
  • The latest version of a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) should be installed on your phone.
  • Take a proper backup (Nandroid ROM Backup) of all the important data
  • Enable USB debugging option on your Moto G 2014 from Settings > Development Options > USB debugging.
  • Check the battery level of your phone, it should be charged at least about 80% to avoid unexpected shutdowns while flashing the ROM.

Step By Step Guide

*Important: Make sure TWRP is installed On your Phone–>>If you don’t have TWRP then follow this guide to install–>>How to Install TWRP Recovery via Fastboot On Any Android Device

  • First of all, download CM12.1 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM and Google Apps Package for your Moto G 2014  from the given download links, on the desktop of your PC.
  • Connect your Moto G 2014 to the PC via its USB data cable and transfer the downloaded ZIP files to your Moto G 2014 Internal memory
  • Now Disconnect the phone and turn it OFF.
  • Reboot your phone into TWRP recovery mode (press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons at the same time till the boot menu appears.You can use Volume Up button to highlight Recovery option, then press Volume Down to select the option.)
  • Once the Motorola Moto G 2014 is in Recovery, take full backup of your current ROM
  • Now from TWRP main menu Select “Wipe” from TWRP main menu and do a “Swipe to Factory Reset” on the bottom of screen.
  • Go back to TWRP main menu, tap on “Install” and select the CM12.1 .zip file that you transferred to your device in Step 1.
  • After selecting the .zip file, do “Swipe to Confirm Flash” on the bottom of screen to begin the custom ROM installation process. This may take some time.
  • Once your ROM is successfully flashed, you’ll see “Wipe cache/dalvik” option, select it and then do “Swipe to wipe” on bottom of screen.
  • Now flash the Gapps file similarly like you flashed the ROM file.

Done!!! Now your device is running Official CM 12.1.
