We have seen that the development of Custom ROMs based on Android’s latest version has been increased significantly this year and this is due to the fact that many of the smartphones don’t receive the latest version of Android released by Google on their smartphones even after 6 months of their release and those smartphone users head to the route of Custom ROMs so that they can experience the latest version of Android on their device. Now, the Custom ROM that is closest to Stock Android and which is also the base of all the other Custom ROMs is LineageOS.
Now, we have known that the latest version of LineageOS is LineageOS 14.1 which is based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat and this version of Android was released in December last year by Google which was ported to LineageOS in January this year. Now, Google released Android 8.0 Oreo and the development of LineageOS 15 had already started and we have seen many unofficial devices getting the LineageOS 15 update.
However, the fans of LineageOS were waiting for them to release the official builds for their devices which would get updates and official support but there were no news regarding that.
Now, LineageOS has come out with an official update by announcing that we will directly see the LineageOS 15.1 builds released officially and not the LineageOS 15 builds as the newest version of Android Oreo, Android 8.1 Oreo has been released by Google just a week ago. Now, the LineageOS 15.1 builds will obviously be based on Android 8.1 Oreo and it will have some improvements and feature additions.
Apart from that, the LineageOS team also hinted that there will be some devices that will not get any further official support for the future builds. Also, the LineageOS 14.1 and LineageOS 13 builds will get the KRACK Wifi vulnerability fix also so if you will still get security improvements if your device is no longer supported due to any reason.
