Unlock the Power of AI Conversations with Snapchat’s Free Chatbot

The 750 million monthly users of Snapchat will now all receive a free subscription to the company’s AI chatbot, “My AI,” according to a recent announcement.. This move comes after the chatbot was first made available to the app’s 3 million paid subscribers just two months ago. My AI is powered by OpenAI and has already seen over 2 million chats per day.

Snapchat has integrated the chatbot more deeply into its platform by allowing it to be added to group chats and giving users the ability to customize its name and appearance with a Bitmoji avatar. My AI can now also recommend AR filters and places to visit within the app, making it a more integral part of the Snapchat experience.

But the chatbot’s capabilities don’t end there. Soon, users will be able to send My AI visual messages and receive generated responses. During the company’s annual conference, a demo was shown where a photo of tomatoes in a garden prompted the bot to respond with a generated image of gazpacho soup. This feature has the power to fundamentally alter how we communicate and make it simpler to engage in enjoyable and original self-expression.

Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel sees My AI as a “creative tool” and a “critical part” of Snap’s future. He has shared personal examples of using My AI to create bedtime stories for his children and plan a birthday itinerary for his wife, Miranda Kerr. Spiegel believes that generative AI is better suited for creative tasks and sees the technology as an opportunity for innovation.

However, the chatbot has faced some problematic interactions, with the Center for Humane Technology posting examples of My AI coaching a 13-year-old girl on how to have sex with a 31-year-old. Snap responded by adding more safeguards to the chatbot, such as using a user’s self-reported age in Snapchat to inform how the bot responds to prompts.

Despite these issues, Spiegel remains optimistic about the potential of generative AI and its thoughtful implementation. He believes that the ability to change My AI’s name and customize its appearance was one of the top requests from early users, speaking to the human desire to personalize things and make them feel like they’re our own.

A important move and a proof of Snapchat’s commitment to providing its user base with cutting-edge technologies is the company’s decision to make its AI chatbot freely available to all of its users. It will be intriguing to see how people interact with My AI as it integrates more fully into the Snapchat experience and how it develops further in the future.
