Samsung’s May 2023 Updates: One UI, Android, and Wear OS

Samsung developers have been working overtime trying to roll out the May 2023 Security Updates for Galaxy devices. May is often seen as a hot month for not just Samsung but the entire tech industry and tech enthusiasts.

Google has already started sharing teases and details surrounding the arrival of the latest Android 14 OS at I/O 2023, introducing the new Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a smartphones.

May 2023 will be a happening month for Samsung too as Samsung will be releasing various updates while there will also be developments in Android, Wear OS, and One UI worlds.

Samsung’s One UI SVEs

Samsung has detailed the contents of the May 2023 Security Maintenance release and the changelog mentions fixes for 21 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE). Further, there are also more than 58 common vulnerability exposures for the Android OS.

Android CVEs

Samsung’s May 2023 update also includes Android CVE items that were discovered and patched by Google. According to the details, this will solve 3 moderate, 48 high, and 4 critical levels of common vulnerability exposures. Here is the Pixel May update changelog –

  • Touch – Improvements made for touch screen response in certain situations, although this will only apply to Pixel 7 Pro devices
  • User interface – The update features the fix for the issue that was occasionally causing lock screen UI elements that overlapped with the home screen launcher interface

Wear OS 3.5 patch

Aside from Pixel devices, Goole will also release the Wear OS 3.5 May 2023 patch for Pixel Watch users. This update will be rolled out for Galaxy Watch models as well that are running the Wear OS. The May 2023 software update will include the newest security patches for Pixel Watch users.
