If you have installed the Android 15 Developer Preview 2 on your device, you will notice a nifty new feature or two. This also involves the addition of the ability to archive apps on Android 15 DP2.
Android 15 Developer Preview 2 has started rolling out officially and it integrates the app archiving feature right into the firmware’s system settings.
With that said, you might be wondering how you can use this feature. In this guide, you will get to know how to archive apps on Android 15 Developer Preview 2.
Steps to archive apps on Android 15 Developer Preview 2
The new Android 15 Developer Preview 2 update has brought along a number of new features, one of which is the ability to archive apps.
Instead of “Open”, which got moved to the top-right corner, you will now get an “Archive” button beside “Uninstall” in App Info. Tapping immediately will complete this action with an “Archived (app)” toast message. You will not be getting any explanatory prompts right now, although system apps will not be archived.
On your app launcher or home screen, the icon will be greyed out with a cloud or download icon overlaid. Tapping it will begin the download process from the Google Play Store. Alternatively, you can even return to App Info and then press “Restore”. Android 15 will remember which permissions you had previously granted after the app is restored.
As of the Android 15 DP2, the System-Level archiving capability does not seem to be integrated with Google Play, which added something very similar last year. Further, the “Pause App Activity if Unused” on/off taggle in App Info has also been renamed. It is now called “Manage App if Unused: Remove Permissions, Delete Temporary Files, Stop Notifications, and Archive the App”.
