If you have been getting a lot of spam messages from different Discord users, the best option would be to block those users. Currently, to block the DMs, you will have to block the user completely. Here is how to do that –
- For blocking a user, you need to click on the username or avatar from DM
- In the pop-up, you should click on their avatar for viewing their profile
- Then, you should click on the three-dot menu and then select the “Block” option
This will help you block the spammer instantly. Blocked users will not be able to DM you anymore.
How to disable messages from unknown users
By default, Discord allows anyone you’re sharing a mutual server with to message you. If anyone who isn’t your friend can message you because you both have joined the same server. However, you can disable this option and stop receiving direct messages from random server members. Doing this will block spams and DMs from unknown server members unless you’ve accepted their friend request.
- On Discord, you should click on the Cog icon near the username at the bottom left corner for opening User Settings
- Then, select the Privacy & Safety option in the left sidebar before scrolling down to the Server Privacy Defaults section
- Disable the toggle near Allow direct messages from server members
- In the pop-up, you should click on the “Yes” option for applying this setting even to the existing servers you have joined
