Apple starts seeding Release Candidate Builds for iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6

Release Candidate builds are essentially the final builds in the beta testing phase. In fact, they’re considered public builds for users who have installed the iOS beta.

This is the case because the Release Candidate build and the upcoming public build share the same changelog and the same build number.

The new Release Candidate builds for iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 have now become available to both developers and public beta testers. It was expected, given that the last beta carried a build number that ended with “a”. Even though this hint does not always hold true, Apple is known to follow a similar pattern.

If you’re currently on an iOS 16.6 beta build, you would have already started receiving the iOS 16.6 Release Candidate.

The new updates include changes from all 5 beta updates as well as improvements and bug fixes. It has also fixed the issue where pairing the first Matter accessory in a new Home fails when paired by selecting the accessory in the nearby accessories list.

How to update to the new Release Candidate Builds for iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6

Both the Release Candidate Builds iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 come with the build number 20G75. As this is a release candidate similar to the public build (tipped to come out next week), it will weigh a lot, just like jumping from one iOS build to another.

This update is available for users who are on iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 beta builds. It’ll be available over the air. If you’re on an iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 beta as a developer or public beta tester, you can head over to Settings -> General -> Software Update. As the public beta will get released next week or maybe later this week, you will not have to install the beta if you’re on an iOS 16.5 or iPadOS 16.5 build.
