Samsung Galaxy S21 series devices get December 2021 security patch update

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series devices have started receiving a new software update for users in Finland. The new Android 12-based software update will bring in the December 2021 Security Patch. Last month, Samsung started to roll out the One UI 4.0 for its Galaxy S21 models, and this third post-Android 12 OTA update featured the most up-to-date security patches.

Galaxy S21 new update brings in security improvements and bug fixes

Samsung’s December 2021 Security Patch will bring in fixes for five critical, 22 high, and 3 moderate CVEs from Google. Among Google’s new CVEs fixes, Samsung has managed to patch up an issue with the previous security release while three of them aren’t applicable to Galaxy devices. Apart from the CVE fixes from Google, Samsung has also brought in 18 SVE items for improving customers’ confidence in the security of Samsung Mobile devices.

Galaxy S21 users can identify the December 2021 security patch update through PDA version numbers – G998BXXS3BUL1, G996BXXS3BUL1, and G991BXXS3BUL1 for the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S21 respectively.

The new update will come with –

  • Device stability improvements
  • Multiple bug fixes
  • New and enhanced features
  • Further performance improvements

The new firmware update is being rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy S21 series users in Finland, however, a much broader rollout will likely happen in the coming days and weeks. If you want to check for the update manually –

  • Head over to the device’s Settings
  • Check for Software Updates
  • If an update is available for your device, download and install it
