Apple starts rolling iOS 16.5 RC2 and iPadOS 16.5 RC2 updates

Apple has surprised its iPhone and iPad users by unexpectedly releasing the second candidate build for iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 users. Many users were expecting to receive the public build. Since the week has only started, the public build can be expected in a few days.

If it isn’t released this week, then it will likely arrive by next week. In this guide, you will get to learn more about iOS 16.5 RC2 and iPadOS 16.5 RC2 updates.

Changelog for the new updates

Coming to the new features, the iOS 16.5 RC2 and iPadOS 16.5 RC2 updates will have improvements over the first release. This is why this update doesn’t bring in many changes. The only major change is that the second release brings the Emergency SOS to iPhone 14 Series in New Zealand and Australia.

Unfortunately, Apple hasn’t mentioned the particular bugs that they have addressed in the update. Some of the bugs present in the previous update such as the notification mess in the lock screen still exist.

Apple starts rolling iOS 16.5 RC2 and iPadOS 16.5 RC2 updates

This isn’t the first time that Apple has rolled out a second release candidate for the latest iOS and iPadOS builds. Apple typically takes these steps if there are any major bugs or major security flaws.  The second release candidate has been released for iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 versions. Interestingly, both iOS 16.5 RC2 and iPadOS 16.5 RC2 updates will come with the build number 20F66. If the public build comes with the same number, then the RC2 will be the stable version for developers and beta testers.

If you’re an Apple user running the iOS 16.5 RC and iPadOS 16.5 RC, you will be receiving the second release candidate update in Software Update. This will be the last beta build and is rumored to be the same as the public build. The public build is expected to come out in a few days. To manually check for the update, you should head over to Settings -> General -> Security Update.
