Bethesda’s highly anticipated Sci-Fi RPG Starfield, has finally entered early access and players are diving into its vast universe. However, it appears that the game is missing a crucial feature ultrawide (32:9 aspect ratio) support. Many players have raised their concerns on social media about this omission.
Following its initial appearance at Bethesda’s E3 presentation in 2018, Starfield has been highly anticipated by fans ever since. The game was presented as an ambitious space exploration RPG with a promise of expansive worlds and rich character development.
One of the promises made during the presentation was support for a 32:9 aspect ratio, which would allow players to fully utilize high fidelity OLED monitors for an immersive visual experience. However as early access became available some players noticed that this promised visual feature was missing from the game.
While Bethesda has not officially addressed the lack of ultrawide support in Starfield early access resourceful players have proposed potential solutions to enable ultrawide gameplay.
Here is a method that some players have suggested:
- Download a Hex Editor: To begin, download a hex editor such as imhex.
- Open Starfield.exe in the Hex Editor: Launch the hex editor and drag the Starfield.exe file into it.
- Search for Hex Values: Use the hex editor’s search function (Ctrl + F) to locate the hex value 8E E3 18 40 in the Hex tab.
- Replace the Values: Copy the hex value 39 8E 63 40 and replace the old values with it. Your edited hex should look like this after the replacement.
- Save Changes: Save the changes (Ctrl + S) and close the hex editor without saving the project.
- Launch the Game: Start the game as usual.
It is important to note that these solutions come from players and there has not been an official acknowledgment or fix from Bethesda regarding the lack of ultrawide support.
