Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 vs Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is arguably Qualcomm’s most powerful mid-range chip to have been released. However, is it as powerful as Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is a part of Qualcomm’s flagship series of processors. If you’re looking to know more about the comparison between Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, then this guide will be helpful. In this guide, you will get to know more about Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 vs Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.

How do Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 compare?

Core arrangement

Both the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 are 4nm chipsets that are manufactured by TSMC. They also feature the same 1+3+4 CPU core arrangement. For the CPU cores, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 will have a Cortex-X2 Prime core that clocks in at 2.91GHz, three Cortex-A710 performance cores that clock at 2.49GHz, and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores that clock in at 1.8GHz. In comparison, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 comes with identical CPU cores that clock higher. Its Cortex-X2 cores clock in at 3.2GHz, its three Cortex-A710 cores clock in at 2.75GHz, and its four Cortex-A510 cores clock in at 2.0GHz.

Geekbench results

The higher clock speed of the CPU cores in the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 indicates that it performs better than the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. The Geekbench results when using a Qualcomm references design device using a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip delivered cores of 1316 points in the single-core test while scoring 4199 points in the multi-core test. In comparison, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 bagged 1031 points in the single-core test while scoring 3707 points in the multi-core test.

GPU

In terms of GPU, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 features an Adreno 730 GPU that clocks at 900MHz. It isn’t known yet if the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 uses an Adreno GPU but it likely won’t be as powerful as the flagship counterpart. However, Qualcomm claims that it offers 2x the performance over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1’s GPU.

Internet and other connectivity features

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 features a Snapdragon X62 5G Model that offers up to 4.4 Gbps peak download speeds. Further, it can offer four carriers (mmWave), 4×4 MIMO (Sub-6), and 2×2 MMO (mmWave). In comparison, the Snapdragon X65 modem inside the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 delivers a peak speed of 10 Gbps and support for eight carriers (mmWave), 4×4 MIMO (Sub-6), and 2×2 MIMO (mmWave).

Both chipsets have the same Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip with a peak speed of as much as 3.6 Gbps, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, tri-band support, and support for Bluetooth Low Energy Audio.
