Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 – The latest high-end SoC for flagships
The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform is the new and revolutionary high-end SoC for flagships and it was introduced in late 2021. The processor has been manufactured in 4nm at Samsung and it integrates a “Prime Core” based on an ARM Cortex-X2 architecture that clocks up to 3 GHz. There are three performance cores based on the Cortex-A710 that clock up to 2.5 GHz while there are also four energy-saving cores based on the ARM Cortex-A510 architecture that clock up to 1.8 GHz. All of the cores use the shared 6 MB level 3 cache.
Compared to the previous top-notch processor, the Snapdragon 888 Plus, the CPU part will gain 20% better performance and 30% power savings. This makes the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 the fastest CPU for Android-based devices. It can be positioned between the Apple A13 and Apple A14 CPU. The integrated AI engine in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is capable of offering up to 4x faster AI performance courtesy of the bigger Tensor engine. The 18-Bit-Spectra-ISP sees some major improvements and is called Snapdragon Sight. Further, the integrated Adreno 730 will offer a 30% graphics boost as compared to the previous Adreno 660.
