WhatsApp introducing Zoom-like Call Scheduling Support

Did you know WhatsApp is introducing Zoom-like Call Scheduling Support for users? If you didn’t, then you will find this guide to be quite helpful. In this guide, you will get to know more about WhatsApp introducing Zoom-like Call Scheduling Support.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps currently, with billions of monthly users around the world. Whether you have to talk to individuals or participate in group chats, this app comes in handy in all situations. It supports voice and video calling but lags behind dedicated calling apps like Zoom and Google Meet in some departments. Recently, WhatsApp has been working on closing the gap as it is testing a call schedule feature that is currently in development.

Voice and video calling support has been an important part of WhatsApp for many years but features like support for larger groups, in-call chatting, and automatic call scheduling have pushed many users towards dedicated video conferencing apps. WhatsApp missed the opportunity to become more popular when it couldn’t add full-fletched meeting features during the COVID-19 pandemic. Better late than never, the company has started introducing such features, starting with call scheduling.

Call Scheduling

The call scheduling feature had been off the radar but it has resurfaced with the WhatsApp v2.23.17.7 update that is being rolled out through the Google Play Beta program. With the Call Scheduling feature, you’ll be able to schedule calls in a group chat and WhatsApp has options to define the date and time for the call. Settings will also allow defining a call topic displayed with the reminder for participants and the type of call, be it voice or video.

Once configured, the invite will be sent as a message to the group. The participants will be reminded 15 minutes before the call and they’ll be able to join using the “Join Call” button in the message. There is also a “Cancel” button for disinterested group members who do not want reminders to attend the call. Together with the group polls feature, call scheduling will make it easier for groups to fixate on a time to convene without having back-and-forth messaging cluttering the chat.
