Nothing recently announced the beta version of the Nothing OS 1.5 update for Phone (1) and started rolling it out in India. The update, based on Android 13, brings a host of new features and improvements to the previous OS. The official launch of Nothing OS 1.5 is scheduled for early 2023, but the company is seeking feedback and suggestions from users until then.

What’s New in Nothing OS 1.5 for Phone (1)?

The Nothing OS 1.5 update promises a smoother and more secure user experience with a range of new features and improvements. The update includes a new Weather app and increased app loading speed by up to 50%. It also introduces more Material You color schemes for matching third-party apps to wallpaper and supports multiple languages for different apps. A QR code scanner has been added to Quick settings, and the update features a new UI for volume control, improved Quick settings, and a new look for Media control.

In terms of privacy, Nothing OS 1.5 brings upgrades such as a Photo picker, Notification permissions, and Media permissions. The update also introduces foreground services that allow users to close active background apps directly from the notification center to save battery. The update includes increased background memory, which reduces the wait time for frequently used apps to load, and a new self-repair feature to keep Phone (1) running like new by clearing unused cache and expired system dumps.

The Nothing OS 1.5 update also improves the Game mode with a new UI dashboard that supports screenshots, screen recording, FPS display, and Do Not Disturb. The update adds the Google Game Dashboard to the UI as well.

Nothing OS 1.5 Beta (Android 13) is now available for download. The OTA update zips can be downloaded directly from the manufacturer’s servers.

Note: For EEA, it is recommended to flash NOS 1.1.8 before the beta.

Steps to Install Android 13 OTA Update for Nothing Phone 1?

To install the Android 13 OTA update zip for Nothing Phone 1, you have two options: the ADB sideload method or the recovery method. Here’s how to use the local upgrade method:

  1. Create a folder named “ota” at the root of the internal storage (outside of any other folders).
  2. Copy the OTA update ZIP file to the “ota” folder.
  3. Open the phone app and dial ##682##. This should launch the offline update tool.
  4. The tool will scan for an OTA file from the internal storage and install it. If it fails, you can manually browse for the OTA package.
  5. After selecting the OTA file, the wizard will apply the update.
  6. Reboot the device to complete the process.

Note: If the dialer doesn’t work in your region, you can use the Activity Launcher app or QuickShortcutMaker to locate and execute the “OfflineOTAUpgrade” tool. The package name to look for is com.nothing.OfflineOTAUpgradeApp.
