Google Messages users will now be able to change RCS chat colors

Google Messages users

Google announced the custom chat feature for RCS Google Messages users in December and it allows you to change the chat colors based on your liking. There isn’t a lot of variety but you’ll be able to change between nine different colors.

With the beta update of Google Messages messages.android_20240125_01_RCO0.phone.openbeta_dynamic, you’ll be able to activate this feature using certain flags.

When the feature completely rolls out, the Google Messages users will be able to pick a custom color for the chat. After you pick a color, you’ll see a “Jon Doe changed the theme” text with the “Change” option that brings up the chat colors dialog once more. In the same way when the other user changes the chat color, you’ll also get the same text with their name. This change works well for both one on one RCS and group RCS conversations. However, it won’t work for SMS conversations.

As of now, there is no official word on the wider rollout of this feature but some beta users have received this update and it is working well.
