Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro users report poor video call quality across multiple apps

Google’s latest flagships the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, have been praised for their exceptional camera sensors and imaging capabilities. However, some users are reporting poor video call quality across a variety of apps, including Google Meet.

A Redditor recently compared the video quality of their Pixel 7 to that of their Pixel 3XL and iPad Pro using Google Meet, and the results showed that the Pixel 7 was significantly blurrier. Other users have also reported similar issues with apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram, suggesting that the problem is widespread.

Furthermore, the issues seem to affect both the front and rear cameras, indicating that it is likely a software problem rather than a hardware issue.

Android Police conducted their own tests using the Pixel 7 series phones’ front camera with a Nothing Phone and an iPhone 13 on a Telegram video call and found the problem to be more severe than expected.

They also reported that users have been complaining about video call quality issues since the phone’s debut in October 2022. Both Android Police and Reddit users have noted that similar problems plagued the Pixel 6 line of smartphones and were never resolved.

It’s worth noting that the quality issues appear to be limited to video calls and that the camera application still delivers better video quality. As the problem is likely a software issue, it may be resolved with a future update. Users can only hope that Google addresses this issue soon.
