However, there are a few rough edges that still need polishing, especially as the current OS is still in beta stage. One of those issues is Chrome Not Working. There have been many reports for users as they have stated that they are getting the Chrome Not Working issue.
For some users, the browser is constantly lagging, freezing, or crashing while for others, it refuses to launch at all. If you have been getting bugged by these issues, then this guide will be helpful.
In this guide, you will get to know how to fix Chrome Not Working in MacOS Sonoma.
Steps to fix Chrome Not Working in MacOS Sonoma
Method 1: Disabling Hardware Acceleration using Terminal
- Head over to LaunchPad -> Others and then open Terminal
- Type the following command and then hit Enter –
/Application/GoogleChrome.app/Contents/MacOS/GoogleChrome --disable –gpu
- Chrome will launch with GPU disabled
Instead of using –disable-gpu, you can also use the “-no-gpu” flag to get the job done. If you’re using it as a sudo command like the one mentioned below, it’ll reset your browser – “sudo/Applications/GoogleChrome.app/Contents/MacOS/GoogleChrome –disable-gpu”. You will then need to re-sign with your Google account and resync your data.
Method 2: Disabling Hardware Acceleration using Flags
- First, you should launch Chrome, go to the below location, and then disable Hardware Acceleration –
chrome://settings/system
- Once you’ve disabled Hardware Acceleration by one of the two methods, head over to the below location –
chrome://flags
- Search for the “Choose ANGLE” graphics backend before changing its state from Default to OpenGL
- Hit “Relaunch” in the command prompt that appears
- Chrome will restart and the Chrome Not Working issue will be fixed
