I don’t get it. What has the prerequisites got to do with the update? You don’t need SP, neither do you need the VCOM drivers whatever (on Linux). Connect and copy the zip onto the internal and boot into the stock recovery, that’s it, isn’t it?
At the last part of the prerequisites, he mentions that you’ll need to flash the stock ROM if you’re on another ROM (probably custom). I suppose he included it just in case the user wasn’t on stock.

This is because some users may have custom recovery and ROM.If user is on stock recovery and ROM then it is not needed.
