May 2021 security update reaches Huawei Mate Xs and Mate 30 Pro

Huawei has started sending a new software update to the Mate Xs and Mate 30 Pro. It is rolling out for the Chinese model of Mate Xs and the global model of Mate 30 Pro. The new update installs May 2021 security patch for improved protection against security and privacy related vulnerabilities.

EMUI 11.0.0.183 - Mate Xs May 2021 security update

The new update for Mate 30 Pro is rolling out in Europe carrying software version EMUI 11.0.0.188. The package size weighs just over 300MB. On the other hand, May 2021 security update for Huawei Mate Xs is expanding in China which can be identified by the software version EMUI 11.0.0.183

The May 2021 security patch for Huawei devices fixes 3 critical, 10 high, and 4 medium levels of Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE’s) to better protect the device. Huawei Mate Xs / Mate 30 Pro users in the specified region who have not received the update yet can manually check the status using any of the methods given below.

Steps to install the update

Via Settings App

  • Open Settings app
  • Go to System & updates -> Software update 
  • Then, click on Check for updates
  • Download and install the update.

Via Support App

  • Open Support app
  • Go to the Services tab
  • Click Update
  • Then, click on Check for updates
  • Download and install the update.

Huawei is also putting great attention to the rollout of its own OS, HarmonyOS. The company has aimed to reach 360 million devices running HarmonyOS at the end of this year. Huawei Mate Xs has also undergone the HarmonyOS 2.0 closed beta testing in China, while the Mate 30 Pro has already started receiving HarmonyOS stable update in mainland China.
