Is OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro Water and Dust Resistant?

There is no doubt that most of the flagship devices do come with IP certification for water and dust resistance. However, not all premium phones offer full waterproof support. What is IP Rating?

An IP (Ingress Protection) rating or International Protection rating classifies the actual level of protection against both solids and liquids in the electrical compound. In short, these ratings define a device’s level of sealing and its effectiveness that can protect the internal electronic hardware against moisture, water, dirt, dust particles, etc.

That means the higher IP rating a device has, the higher water and dust resistance/proof you can get in case of the accidental situations. If you want to dive more into this IP rating numbers (2-digit), then keep in mind that the first number or digit indicates the protection level from solid particles like dirt/dust. While the second number or digit indicates the protection level of water/any liquid.

So, coming to the conclusion, we can say that both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are Water and Dust Resistant (proof) supported because according to the IP rating, the first digit is up to six and the second digit is up to eight. Means IP68 and as we already mentioned the higher number will increase more protection.

Can You Take Out the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro for a Water Dive?

Well, that’s totally up to you and your preference. As both the OnePlus 8/8 Pro models are water & dust resistant, you can take out these devices for a water dive or swim. But we will recommend you to don’t take the IP rating for granted. Because all of these tests are fully made by professionals and then the company announced it.

But in real life, if in case, any liquid damage happens to your device, you won’t be able to get a free service most probably. Additionally, your device will damage quite easily. Though you can go out for the swim or it’s okay to spill liquid over your OnePlus 8/8 Pro accidentally, it’s not okay to keep it for longer.
