At the time of the Android 13 introduction, Google announced a new media player notification feature that allows users to quickly change the audio output source to another paired or connected Google Cast device. Now, it seems that the Spotify Integration with Android Media Player is finally coming soon after more than a year.
Last year at CES 2023, Google mentioned that they’re partnering with Spotify to integrate Spotify Connect into the Android media player. But it didn’t happen to be rolled out for some reason.
Although we’re not sure when the Spotify integration feature will be rolled out, the chances are quite high because Google again re-introduced the Spotify integration with Android’s media player at the MWC 2024 event.
It’ll enable users to use the source option in the media player notification to change the music playback to other Spotify Connect devices.
It’ll usually turn your mobile phone into a Spotify remote control to control music playback on other connected devices without launching the app. Reports are also coming out that the device suggestions are dynamic and may change depending on location, time, and proximity to the speakers.

As there is no specific timeline given yet by Google for this specific feature integration, we can expect some changes or improvements in the Spotify integration with the Android media player. But this time we hope there won’t be any further delays in releasing the feature.
Currently, YouTube Music offers a similar kind of feature to Google Cast-enabled devices but the integration with all popular Android music players hasn’t been done yet. So, try using YouTube Music as of now or just wait for the Spotify integration to arrive.
