How to Fix YouTube Search and Watch History Missing From App

YouTube is easily the most popular video streaming platform on the internet, getting billions of views each month. With almost everyone using YouTube, some users prefer to have their Watch History turned off.

This can be due to a number of reasons, from a privacy perspective to just the fact that you might want to be surprised with random and unexpected videos on your feed. Likewise, if you have watched an off-topic video once but do not want the app to fill your feed with such videos, then it might come in handy.

However, Google doesn’t appreciate this practice as it isn’t able to gather enough data to customize feeds based on what is in sync with your requirements.

Steps to fix YouTube Search and Watch History Missing From App

Watch History

Owing to this reason, YouTube has started testing a new feature where you will not get any videos on your feed if your Search and Watch History is turned off. As absurd as it might sound, this is true. But since it may take a while to get this feature implemented, users are looking to utilize their past practice until it lasts. Unfortunately, users aren’t able to do this as both the Search and Watch History features have been missing from the YouTube app. Earlier, you could have accessed both these features from Settings -> History & Privacy.

However, now the “Manage All History” and “Privacy” options are segregated and users are left without any option to disable their watch history. Luckily, there is a workaround that you can use to get the job done. Here are the steps to do that –

  • Launch the YouTube app and then tap on the profile located at the top right
  • Now, head over to Settings -> Manage All History and then select your account
  • Tap on “Turn Off” followed by Pause in the confirmation prompt
  • Your Watch History will get disabled and you will be notified of the same
