Double Tap on Google Messages to React Feature Will Arrive Soon

In the last couple of years, Google has been working hard to bring multiple improvements and updates to its RCS-powered Messages application for Android OS running mobile devices. Due to the widespread of Android fans across the globe, it seems that the RCS (Rich Communication Services) has been liked by millions of Android users. Now, multiple reports coming out that the ‘Double Tap on Google Messages to React’ feature could be possible pretty soon.

The giant search engine company is not only focused on frequent updates but also polishes the overall messaging experience for the users. This eventually pushes Apple to adopt RCS in its iMessage in the upcoming years.

As Google Messages developers are planning to push a new feature update very soon, the beta version 20240208_00_RC00 includes a code string for the double-tap feature to react the text messages. Well, RCS is a communication protocol between the mobile platform and SIM carriers that replaces standard SMS messages to a rich format.

It allows users to add reactions, pin locations, upload attachments, and more. Recently, we have spotted a report by 9to5Google regarding the latest Google Messages Beta version 20240208_00_RC00 that will let the users double-tap on messages to react quite easily.

This will help users to react to messages with a like, smiley, heart reaction, or more. Right now, Google Messages reactions can only be found only in RCS chats. You’ll need to tap and hold on to a text message on the app to bring the list of emoji reactions.

Once the reactions list appears, you can simply pick one reaction and tap on it to add it to the text editor and send it immediately. This adds a little bit of convenience for those who love to use RCS messages quite frequently. Google indeed has a set of products and services, but most of the developments and updates go sideways with the Android’s core system.

The RCS feature will work when the mobile number has been activated in the Google Messages app with the mobile data enabled. As of now, this double-tap-to-react feature in Google Messages hasn’t been confirmed yet by the company officially.

Currently, the code has been seen in the beta version of the application (discovered with APK teardown) and might get rolled out soon to the stable or beta channel in the upcoming months. We can also expect more emoji icons for the users to react shortly once it’s available for the public.
