Extract the Asus Zenfone 9 stock boot.img file

  1. To start off, download the stock firmware for your smartphone from the link mentioned here
  2. Ensure that you’re downloading the same version that is currently installed on your device
  3. Once you’ve downloaded the file, extract it to a convenient location on your PC
  4. You’ll be getting a couple of files, including the payload.bin, which you’ll need to extract to get the boot.img file
  5. Once you’ve extracted the file, copy the boot.img file and transfer it to your device

Patch the Asus Zenfone 9 stock boot.img file via Magisk

  1. Download and install the newest version of the Magisk app
  2. Launch it and tap on the Install button beside Magisk
  3. After that, you should choose “Select and Patch a File”, and navigate to the stock boot.img file, and then select it
  4. Tap on the Let’s Go button located at the top right
  5. The boot.img file will get patched and placed in the Downloads folder on your device
  6. You’ll need to transfer the file to the platform-tools folder on the PC and use this file for rooting your Asus Zenfone 9

Boot your Asus Zenfone 9 to Fastboot mode

  1. Connect your smartphone to the PC via the USB cable while ensuring that USB debugging is enabled
  2. Head over to the platform-tools folder, type in CMD in the address bar, and then hit enter to launch the Command Prompt
  3. Type the following command in the CMD window for booting your device to Fastboot Mode
adb reboot bootloader

Flash Magisk Patched boot.img and root your Asus Zenfone 9

  1. To start off, ensure that you’ve transferred the magisk_patched.img file to the platform-tools folder
  2. Type in the following command in the CMD window to flash the Magisk patched file
fastboot flash boot magisk_patch.img
  1. Once it is done, reboot your Asus Zenfone 9 to the OS via the following command
fastboot reboot
