Timeline inaccuracies can be problematic enough at times in Google Maps especially when users fall into an emergency. Speculations claimed that a new software update has brought unexpected bugs.

According to reports, the Timeline feature issue in Google Maps has displayed incorrect locations, incomplete trip recordings, not updating the records, and more. Even though there is no official statement arrived from Google yet, a product expert mentioned on the Google Maps Help forum as follows:

The timeline (location history) is far from perfect and often shows glitches. They should not be taken as hard evidence of a person’s location.
The only person who can really know where you’ve been is yourself.

It would be very difficult to find the exact explanation why errors appear in your case, since many different factors come into play in the location system. Hopefully Google will improve the service.
