WhatsApp Allows Using Same Account on Multiple Phones

Thanks to WhatsApp’s multi-device capability, users may now access their accounts on numerous phones. Previously, the feature allowed users to access and send messages from additional Android tablets, browsers, or computers alongside their primary phone, but it is now expanding to support additional smartphones. The feature is rolling out to all users in the coming weeks and allows one WhatsApp account to be used across multiple phones.

The new functionality, which enables numerous employees to send and receive messages from the same company number via separate phones, is especially helpful for small firms that use WhatsApp to communicate with clients. However, it is also beneficial for anyone who uses multiple smartphones and wants them all associated with the same WhatsApp account.

Setting up a secondary phone to use with a WhatsApp account is easy. After installing the app, instead of entering the phone number and logging in as usual, users can tap a new “link to existing account” option. This generates a QR code that can be scanned by the primary WhatsApp phone via the “link a device” option in settings. Devices running iOS and Android can use the feature.

The original phone that logged in to the account is considered the “primary” device, but it does not need to be turned on to receive messages across other phones, Android tablets, or computers. If the primary device is inactive for more than 14 days, other devices will be logged out. Users can also manually log out linked devices from their primary phone.

Once a secondary phone is linked to a WhatsApp account, users can access and send messages from either phone. Up to a year of messages will sync between devices, so users can see chat histories before sending any new messages. Messages sync across phones regardless of their operating systems, whether it’s iOS to Android or vice versa.

This new feature is more seamless and useful than the previous workarounds that allowed access to the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones via WhatsApp Web in a browser. Whether or not the multi-device capability is engaged, personal messages continue to be end-to-end encrypted.

In conclusion, the new multi-device feature from WhatsApp offers great flexibility and convenience to users, making it easier to stay connected and communicate with others. It is especially useful for small businesses, but anyone who uses multiple smartphones can benefit from this new feature. It’s an effortless method to keep in touch regardless of the device you’re using, with up to a year’s worth of message history synchronising between devices.
