Apple starts rolling out the iOS 17.1 Release Candidate for iPhone users

Apple has been preparing for its first big release since the release of the iOS 17 update last month. While iOS 17.1 Release Candidate isn’t a major update, it is still an incremental update that many users were waiting for. As the iOS 17 update is still relatively new, there are still many bugs that need to be resolved.

There are some features that haven’t been released on iPhone yet. This is usual for Apple as the developers take time to bring them incremental updates like iOS 17.1

Alongside the new iOS 17.1 Release Candidate, Apple has also rolled out iPadOS 17.1 RC, tvOS 17.1 RC, watchOS 10.1 RC, macOS Sonoma 14.1 RC, macOS Monterey 12.7.1 RC3 and macOS Ventura 13.6.1 RC3.

Changelog for the new iOS update

1 Release Candidate

Both the iOS 17.1 Release Candidate and iPadOS 17.1 RC come with the same build number 21B74. The upcoming official build would come with the same build number if Apple doesn’t come out with another release candidate build. As for the changes, here are the changes you will enjoy by installing this update –

Airdrop

  • Content will continue to transfer over the internet once you step out of the AirDrop range

StandBy

  • New options for controlling once the display turns off

Music

  • Favorites have been expanded to include songs, albums, and playlists, giving you the option to filter to display your favorites in the library
  • Song suggestions will now appear at the bottom of each playlist, making it easy to add music that matches the playlist’s vibe
  • New cover art collection will offer designs that change colors to reflect the music in your playlist

How to update to the iOS 17.1 Release Candidate?

The iOS 17.1 Release Candidate is available for iPhone users who have enabled the beta updates. If you’re already in the iOS 17 public build, you won’t have to enable beta as it’ll be available officially next time. To check for the update, you should head over to Settings -> General -> Software Updates.
