This new feature has been introduced to Google Pixel 8 Pro handsets and it has been rolling out gradually since the release of the December 2023 Update. Naturally, you will need to enable video boost yourself but the process won’t be too difficult.

What is the Video Boost feature?

Video Boost is a new feature that has been rolling out for Pixel 8 Pro users starting December 7th. While it might not be available immediately, Google is still detailing the experience.

This feature will boost lighting, colors, and details in videos captured by Pixel 8 Pro. You’ll need to enable Video Boost from the Video Settings panel. After toggling on, a Video Boost icon would appear in the top-left corner in the viewfinder. Moreover, the Pixel Camera app will prompt you to enable it once the scene is dark enough.

Google has noted how the default Video Boost settings is 4K resolution, SDR, and 30 FPS but you can still adjust this. Meanwhile, this feature has a maximum recording limit of ten minutes. Once you finish recording, an initial video preview in 30 FPS, 1080p, and SDR would be available to watch, share, and edit.

How to enable video boost on Google Pixel 8 Pro

Here are the steps to follow to enable video boost on Google Pixel 8 Pro –

  • First, you need to open Google Camera app and if it is in Photo Mode, you should switch to Video Mode
  • Then, you need to tap “Video Settings” or swipe up
  • After that, turn on Video Boost
  • When you’re using Video Boost for the first time, the default setting would be 4K resolution, SDR (10-bit HDR off), and at 30 frames per second
  • Record a video
  • If you’re low on record space, you will receive a warning and the recording will automatically stop
