Microsoft’s latest release in the Insider Preview Program, Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23486, brings an array of new features, improvements, and bug fixes.
The spotlight feature of this update is the introduction of Passkeys, marking a significant step towards a passwordless future.
Passkeys promise to enhance security by being more resistant to theft and phishing, making them a solid replacement for traditional passwords. Websites such as BestBuy, eBay, and Google are already compatible with this feature.
How to Create and Use Passkeys
To create and use passkeys on a Windows device, users need to navigate to a compatible website, generate a passkey from the account settings, and then log out and log back in using the newly created passkey. The process is similar for creating and using passkeys on a mobile device. The difference is that once a passkey is created on a mobile device, it can be used to log in on a Windows device.
Managing Passkeys
Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23486 provides users with comprehensive control over their passkeys. Users can view and delete passkeys saved for their favorite apps and websites from the Windows settings. The path to manage passkeys is via Settings > Accounts > Passkeys. This section presents a list of all passkeys saved to a user’s Windows device, allowing them to search and delete any passkey from their device.
